The Two Body Sizes
Apple is expected to build the iPhone 18 line-up around two chassis sizes. The 6.3-inch models — iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro — are usable one-handed for most people, fit easily in a jacket or trouser pocket, and are the lighter option. The 6.9-inch models — iPhone 18 Plus and iPhone 18 Pro Max — offer roughly 20 percent more usable screen area, which is noticeable in maps, spreadsheets, split-view browsing and video.
One-Handed Use
The 6.3-inch body remains reachable across most of the screen for average hand sizes, particularly with Reachability enabled. The 6.9-inch models effectively require two hands for anything beyond scrolling. If you use your phone while walking, commuting standing up, or holding something in your other hand, the smaller body is the practical choice regardless of specification.
Screen Area and Content Density
A 6.9-inch panel displays visibly more text per screen, larger video, and a more comfortable on-screen keyboard. For reading, note-taking, document review or gaming, the extra area genuinely changes the experience. For messaging, camera use and short sessions, the difference is smaller than the spec sheet suggests.
Battery Capacity by Size
Battery capacity tracks chassis size directly. The iPhone 18 is expected near 3,700 mAh and the iPhone 18 Pro near 3,900 mAh, while the iPhone 18 Plus is expected around 4,700 mAh and the iPhone 18 Pro Max around 5,000 mAh. Choosing the larger body buys roughly a quarter more capacity, which for heavy users is often the deciding factor.
Weight and Pocketability
Larger phones are heavier, and the Pro models are heavier still because of their frame material and larger camera modules. The lightest model in the line-up is the standard iPhone 18; the heaviest is the iPhone 18 Pro Max. If you notice phone weight in a shirt pocket or during long reading sessions, weigh that before display size.
Which Size to Choose
Choose the 6.3-inch body if portability, one-handed use and lower weight matter most. Choose the 6.9-inch body if screen area and battery endurance matter most. Both sizes are available in a non-Pro and a Pro version, so size no longer forces a compromise on camera or chip — you pick the size first, then the tier.
